Causes of ImpotenceThe causes of impotence can be minor, the first time it occurs, such as unfamiliar suroundings, the situation, noise, a crying child and so on. We have all experienced at times in our lives the inability to get or maintain an erection. All men have experienced an episode of impotence in their sexual life at one time or another. Men are taught by our society to be sexual at all times and those that do not get an erection on demand are seen as failures as men. There can be a number of causes for impotence apart from "it is all in the mind" which is often said. This brings us to the next or second episode of impotence that can provide a psychological uncertainty, the fear of failure and depression that can often become a vicious cycle. Significant contributory causes of impotence are often things such as use of recreational drugs, smoking, alcohol, infection, medication, disease, injury. These all must be examined in order to enable one to determine the cause. As mentioned previously these three points are physically necessary to get and maintain an erection:- 1 Filling of the pressure chamber with blood 2 The relaxation of the smooth muscle and 3 Holding the blood long enough in the penis for orgasm The above mentioned contributory causes can affect the physical changes required. Some men can get an erection but are unable to maintain it, others may generate a semi-rigid erection, some may not get one at all. Then there are those that have an ability to get a good erection one day and lose that ability overnight completely. Having experienced such short or relative longer periods of impotence a number of times, humiliation, fear, frustration, anger, depression, no one to talk to all contribute to the problem getting worse. So often these feelings cause impotence and impotence causes the feelings and so it becomes a vicious cycle. It could well be that the primary cause of impotence could be physical.
